If the style you want is not listed here, select the "more styles" option at the bottom, and from the 'installed styles' tab, select your style and click "use this style". Select the style you want and the references in your document will now reflect your new style. If using a Mac device, click the "Add-Ins" tab and select "Choose Citation Style" If using a Windows device, click the "references" tab and click the down arrow next to the "style" field in the "Mendeley Cite-O-Matic" section. If using a Mac, click the 'Add-Ins" tab and select "insert bibliography". If using a Windows device, click the "references" tab and select "insert bibliography" in the "Mendeley Cite-O-Matic" section. Put your cursor where you want the bibliography to begin. Search for the reference you want, select it, and press OK. If using a Mac and Microsoft Word, Mendeley lives in the 'References' tab. If using a Windows device, Click the "references" tab and select "insert citation" in the "Mendeley Cite-O-Matic" section. 
Open Word and Insert your cursor where you want your citation to appear. Perhaps the problem may have resulted from a recent Windows update, and if so, hopefully Microsoft will fix it soon. I had earlier tried unsuccessfully to fix the problem by reverting to a previous version of Office 365 ProPlus, which didn’t help. Other macros that I routinely use now also produce the VB 5097 error, and the suggested inelegant work-around also enables them to run. The problem seems more extensive than just effects on Zotero. If saved as docx or doc files, however, the macros did not run when opened later. 
The docm document can be opened with double click. By saving the document as a docm file with “save as” options and reopening, the macros still work. When I did that, the Zotero macros ran okay in that document.īy working with that new dotm document (or copying contents of another document that no longer permits the Zotero macros to run into this document), I found I can use all the Zotero Word addon functions from the ribbon as previously. Use “open” rather than double click to ensure that it is opened as a dotm file and not docx file. Make a copy of either the Zotero.dotm or normal.dotm file and open it in Word. Norazi's observation was helpful, and it suggested a cumbersome work-around that seems to work on my system.
